What's New At VEG!?!
Featuring "things"

that you WILL want to see out at

VCMGA's
Victoria Educational Gardens...
UPLOADED WEEK OF APRIL 18, 2011
VCMGA members have been working in full force on the construction of a NEW Daylily Bed, a Zen Garden Area, and the Texas Superstar Area (which is a project of the class of 2010.)  In these photos you will also see the blooms of a Red Hot Poker Plant, beautiful new VEGGIES, a Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar chomping on the pipevine, and A MYSTERY DAYLILY.  Can anyone help identify this beautiful yellow daylily?
This NEW DAYLILY AREA is just across from the original Daylily Area and replaces what used to be the EarthKind Rose Trial Beds.  The daylilies will be divided from the other side to make a "mirror image" bed.
Our master gardeners are learning what a Zen Garden is.  As we make progress, come and learn with us as this area is completed.  You can find it just above the Tropical Fish Pond and below the pergola.
Julie Moritz and Linda Hartman have been working hard on the NEW Texas Superstar Area, which is a project of the Class of 2010.  You can find this area as you walk past the Daylily Area and then past the Cathedral Gazebo.  It is on the right side of the pathway across from the Tea Room Gazebo, Perennial Area, and Xeriscape Area.
This AWESOME Red Hot Poker plant, in full bloom, is located in the Xeriscape Area.  Walk toward the corner of the garden nearest the airplane hangers and by the HUGE windchimes. You'll  see this SPECTACULAR blooming xeriscape plant near the BLUE URN disappearing water fountain.
Head over to the VEGGIE area of the Children's Garden to see all the goodies, including this Baby Zucchini Squash!
This very HUNGRY CATERPILLAR has been munching away as he grows and grows and will eventually morphose into a BEAUTIFUL Pipevine Swallowtail.
HELP! HELP! HELP!  Does anyone know what the name of this creamy, yellow daylily is?  If you do, please email nancyk@vcmga.org.  THANKS TO BRYNN LEE FOR THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS!!
After almost a year, I had an email from someone named Clay who says that our mystery daylily is Siloam Amazing Grace.  Thank you so much for reading our web site and taking the time to respond to our plea for HELP!  It's always a job-in-progress keeping labels on plants at VEG.

Here is a link I found to a photo of
'Siloam Amazing Grace.' ~

By the way, you can see the Bluebonnet seedpods in the background.  The daylily area abounds with beautiful, bountiful bluebonnets at this time.  Come on out for a photo opportunity.
