Master Pond Builders volunteer to benefit Master Gardeners
Victoria, Texas-The Victoria County Master Gardeners invited members of the community to observe the creation of their water garden and bog which is the focal point of the Victoria Educational Gardens’ (VEG) expansion. Three companies, The Pond Crew from San Antonio, Alpine Aquascapes from Katy and TexasPonds.com from Rosenburg sent members of their pond building teams to Victoria on March 5 and 6, 2007 to assist the Master Gardeners with the construction of the pond ecosystem. These volunteers are brought their expertise to Victoria to promote water gardening and assist in providing another educational opportunity for the children that visit the VEG. An actual ecosystem was created in the water garden—a balance is achieved between the fish, aquatic plants and the naturally occurring beneficial bacteria that are found in natural rivers, lakes and streams. The water garden with cascading waterfalls, a gravel bog, a land bridge, filtration system, and skimmers was constructed over the two day period. The Victoria Educational Gardens are located at 333 Bachelor Drive, adjacent to Foster Field Officer’s Club at Victoria Regional Airport. The mission of Victoria County Master Gardeners is to provide horticultural and environmental education to the community.
