| This beautiful Variegated Fritillary was on the Eupatorium greggii or Gregg's Mist Flower in the Butterfly Secret Garden. Enter through the wooden gate next to the Butterfly Area. It was somewhat unusual for me to see this Variegated Fritillary, as I usually see Gulf Fritillaries everywhere in VEG. On Nov. 20, I saw NO Gulf Fritillaries. And, usually we see Queen Butterflies on the Mist Flower. There were lots and lots of Fritillary caterpillars of various sizes, and I'm not certain if they will develop into Gulf Fritillaries or Variegated Fritillaries. ONLY TIME WILL TELL. Let us know what you see. SEE the caterpillar below. |

| This Fritillary caterpillar was munching away with about 10 others on the Passion Vine found inside the Secret Butterfly Garden. Is anyone certain which Fritillary is will become? There are two kinds of Passion Vines in our Butterfly Area. This one is Passiflora foetida var. gossypifolia. The best link on Native Texas Passion Vines I could find describes this ONE called Corona de Cristo. http://www.nativesoftexas.com/Vines/Corona_de_Cristo.html |

| The other Passion Vine in the Butterfly Area is the Purple Passionflower Vine
or Passifloraceae incarnata. Here is a link to a photo of that host plant for the Fritillary Butterflies. http://www.nativesoftexas.com/passionflower_vine.htm |

| Isn't this a beautiful FALL blooming plant? This is the Mexican Mint Marigold, also known as Tagetes lucida. People here in Texas call it the Texas Tarragon also, as it has an anise aroma and can be used in the place of the herb, tarragon. It is also in the Secret Butterfly Garden. This is a tender Perennial (hardy to 20 degrees) and thrives in full sun, requires only medium to low water, and will grow up to 3×3? shrub. |

| Have you ever desired to have a TRUE BLUE flowering plant in your garden. Well, this one is close. The Monarch butterfly finds the Henry Duelberg Salvia in the Texas Superstar Plant area pretty desirable too. How sweet it is to have this perennial beauty blooming into late Fall. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This plant is a NEW TEXAS SUPERSTAR and is considered a "Specialty Plant" on the superstar plant list. It is called the Caricature Plant or the Graphtophyllum pictum. It is only hardy to Zone 10 and works well as a container plant that can be taken in during the winter. Its beauty is its variegated foliage. Find a bit more info about the Caricature Plant here: http://texassuperstar.com/plants/graptophyllum/index.html | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| YOU can find a super Shade Area at VEG if you are the type that would rather stay out of the sun as much as possible. This is such a nice, peaceful area and brings such joy with plants, like this Ligularia. We also featured the Ligularia on May 23, 2011. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
